Jan Sierhuis
In 1978 I met the Amsterdam expressionist painter Jan Sierhuis at the Psychopolis Academy in The Hague. I studied drawing and painting with Jan. He was inspiring and taught us with great enthusiasm and encouragement. It was a privilege to study under him. I suggested to Jan doing some photo portrait studies of him working in his studio. The photographic images show Jan working and the dynamic expression in his paintings.
Jan Sierhuis, now in his 80’s, continues to paint tirelessly. His work is represented in major museums and art collections around the world and he has exhibited worldwide. He was involved in the Experimentalists (1947) and with Appel, Corneille, and Lucebert, one of the most important postwar artists.
Some of the photographs created in Jan’s studio in Amsterdam are in the Special Collections of the Leiden University in the Netherlands.
All the black & white original images are printed on fibre based photographic papers and selenium toned. Printed by Yoke Matze.
